Renal Artery Stenosis & Other Renovascular Disorders
Renal Artery Stenosis occurs when the arteries supplying the kidneys become narrowed, often due to atherosclerosis or fibromuscular dysplasia. This condition can lead to resistant hypertension and ischemic nephropathy, posing a risk to both cardiovascular and kidney health.
Symptoms can be subtle, but may include poorly controlled blood pressure, loss of kidney function, or audible bruits in the abdomen. Lake Erie Nephrology evaluates patients using advanced imaging techniques such as Doppler ultrasonography, CT angiography (CTA), and MR angiography (MRA).
Treatment depends on the severity of the stenosis and the patient’s overall risk profile. Options range from medical management—including blood pressure control and cholesterol-lowering therapy—to interventional procedures like angioplasty with or without stenting.
Our nephrologists monitor renal function and blood pressure closely, working in collaboration with interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons when necessary. We also focus on secondary prevention to reduce cardiovascular risk.
Offices in Perrysburg, Bowling Green, and Fremont provide accessible care for patients with renovascular conditions. If you’re struggling with difficult-to-control hypertension or declining kidney function, let our team provide a comprehensive evaluation.
